Why does my advice matter?
My name is Marilyn Mele. I’m a dog trainer and I love my job!
One thing I know for sure, after working with dog owners and their dogs for so many years, is that people feel deep and sincere emotions about their dogs. Relationships between people and dogs are powerful. People want the best for their dogs and they deserve to have just that!
I believe that it doesn’t always matter so much what you teach a dog, but it does matter a lot that you teach your dog something.
Dog training is as much an art as it is a science. Great dog trainers give you what you need because they are able to change, adjust and accommodate as circumstances change.
When I was a child, I trained my first dog using a book from my local library. It was exciting and fascinating to experience the partnership that evolves when people and dogs communicate.
As an adult, I trained my own dogs for competition as a hobby while I was a full-time schoolteacher.
My first obedience titled dog was a Lhasa Apso named Sesame. She was one of my very best teachers!
Friends, family and co-workers often asked me for advice about their dogs and after a while, I started giving lessons.
My growth as a dog trainer has been organic, not forced. Because I love my job, I studied and learned from the best I could find. Doing the work and learning from mistakes is the most challenging and rewarding part of the job.
By sharing what I have learned through online communities and courses, I intend to benefit more dogs and people.
